Ingrown Hair Removal with Laser – Ideal for bikini’s, face and legs.
Ingrown hairs can be a frustrating side effect of hair removal for many people, both men and women. The purpose of removing the hair is usually to feel more comfortable, have smoother skin and look nicer; unfortunately, uncomfortable ingrown hairs can ruin that for us.
Laser hair removal is the best answer to ingrown hairs on the body, the most common areas for ingrown are the face, neck, inner thigh, buttocks, the bikini and lower legs.
The solution to this is to kill the hair at the root with laser hair removal. This will slowly reduce the number of hairs and therefore the amount of ingrown from forming, between sessions the laser damages the hair roots so that the growth slows down and typically gets finer, thus less likely to encourage ingrown hairs.
Try not to over-exfoliate if you have ingrown hairs, this can help by removing the top layers of dead skin, but over-exfoliating can cause pigmentation on darker skin types and more irritation.
If you have ingrown hairs/ spots on the face then make sure to wear an oil-free Factor 50 sun cream, constant inflammation on the skin when it is exposed to UV sun rays daily can contribute to pigmentation.
By booking a free consultation at our clinic, you will have an expert look at the area and determine your suitability for treatment. Many clients find the pigmentation is resolved after having laser hair removal alone. However, for those clients that have scarring or pigmentation left behind from the ingrown hairs, we have other solutions.
These include micro-needling with the Skinpen. The first point of call will always be killing the hairs to get rid of the root of the problem- literally!
At your consultation, a skin test will be conducted if you are suitable and you will be booked for your first session from 48 hours later. It is essential only to shave once you commit to laser hair removal sessions.
What are Ingrown Hairs?
Ingrown hair is a condition wherein the hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin. It may or may not be accompanied by an infection of the hair follicle or razor bumps. They most commonly appear in areas of the skin that have been waxed or shaved such as the legs or pubic area but they can appear anywhere.
What Causes Ingrown Hair’s?
Ingrown hairs are caused by excessively curly hair curling back on themselves or the buildup of dead skin where weak hair is not strong enough to push through.
It can also be due to the hair being removed incorrectly from waxing and shaving. The most common areas for ingrown hairs are seen on the bikini area, chin/beard and legs.
Laser hair removal can help with ingrown hairs by reducing the amount of hair that is growing and preventing the hair from curling back into the skin or build up of dead skin. We do advice exfoliation to help with dead skin removal.
How to get rid of Ingrown hairs?
Laser hair removal is the deliberate removal of body hair & ingrown hair removal using the technology of laser. Hair generally grows all over the human body, some fine and barely noticeable, with other areas having thicker, more prominent hair.
Laser hair removal uses laser light pulses to selectively destroy hair follicles by targeting the melanin (colour) in them. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser’s light pulse, which damages the follicle enough to significantly retard hair regrowth. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the hair follicle whilst the surrounding tissue remains unaffected.
The Soprano Titanium Laser hair removal method is unlike any other laser hair removal treatment. Featuring its exclusive 3D technology, Soprano Titanium combines the three most effective laser wavelengths into a single applicator, simultaneously targeting different tissue depths and anatomical structures within the hair follicle.
By combining the absorption and penetration levels of different wavelengths, along with extended treatment coverage, increased comfort and low maintenance requirements, Soprano Titanium is the safest and most efficient hair removal treatment available today.
A consultation is important to primarily discuss your needs and expectations. Our aesthetic practitioner will assess your medical history and suitability for the treatment and ask you to give informed consent for the treatment course.
A patch test is required at least 24 hours before commencing your first treatment. This is to assess the amount of melanin (colour) in the hair and determine the correct settings to use for an effective, virtually pain-free treatment. You will be asked to shave the area on the morning of your first treatment to achieve the best results.
During the treatment, the laser is passed over the skin in a slow, fluid motion. This movement gradually heats the hair follicles in the sub dermal (lower) layer of the skin using pulses of energy that are absorbed into the melanin (brown colour) in the hair. This stops the blood supply to the hair, so it can no longer be produced. All you will feel is a warm, comfortable sensation whilst this magic is happening!
After your treatment, your hair will start to grow as though it’s been shaved. The hairs can remain in the skin and often become attached to the epidermis (upper layers of skin). They will fall out within 19 to 30 days after the treatment as the skin naturally renews itself. As the blood supply to the hair has been stopped, the follicle starts to miniaturises, resulting in the hair being eradicated or depigmented and fined to vellus hair. Treatment intervals vary from 4-8 weeks apart depending on the treatment area.
